May 25th — “NEON & FIRE VANITAS” | Alex Face solo show at DCG London

Alex Face is a Thai street artist renowned worldwide and in the collection of MOCA Bangkok. In his works, Alex fuses the shocking Dutch Golden Age inspired painting technique with spray and tags from the graffiti vocabulary for an absolutely stunning result. The new show is built on the momentum of the iconic 2020 exhibition “Monument of Hope” which resulted in MOCA’s acquisition of his work.

Neon and Fire Vanitas’ show

In the body of works in ‘Neon and Fire Vanitas’, Alex Face projects Vanitas into the modern era, infusing it with his unique perspective and personal artistic vision rich with a refined and profound assimilation of European culture. In his paintings, where oil paints, acrylics and spray cans find brilliant application, Alex Face depicts the frenzy of modern life in its continuous and swirling evolution.

May 27th — “ESSENTIEL” | A-MO solo show at Institut Culturel Bernard Magrez Bordeaux

‘Essentiel’ show

Bordeaux native artist A-MO has developed a very personal technique which consists of painting by superimposing tags (stylized signatures). These tags, made mainly with spray paint or marker, overlap like the layers of oil paint on a “classic painting”. The artist calls this “the Paintag”.

Up close, the observer sees only a tangle of signatures and words, of different sizes, colors and shapes. It is by taking a step back that the work reveals a second reading: the tags are gradually forgotten and the subject is revealed. A colorful and instinctive universe, the “urban jungle” is his main place of expression and nature his favorite subject. Passionate about animals and nature in general since his childhood, it is only natural that he specializes in animal painting.

Painting in the street remains a real source of motivation with the desire to be accessible to all. “Work in the street and on canvas bring me a lot and are, for me, complementary. I do not oppose them and do not favor any of them, they bring me, one like the other, the elements necessary for my artistic and creative development.”: Says A-MO. So time to check out his work during the solo show in Bordeaux

May 27th — “VERSUS” | Group show at Urban Art Center Brussels

The VERSUS exhibition is the latest exhibition concept of the Urban Art Center. It will oppose two types of artworks that at first glance have nothing to do with each other. Indeed, this first edition will focus on portrait and abstraction, two pictorial genres often considered as the polar opposites of each other. One has a status of noble art, of “true work of art” for centuries while the other is often considered by the general public as a fad of artist not knowing what to draw because of a lack of inspiration.

Versus Group Show

For Xavier Thilly: curator of the exhibition, what links these two seemingly opposite styles is the importance of the gaze and the viewpoint. To develop this idea, the art pieces will be accompanied by some preparatory sketches, elements of inspiration for the artist’s work, one or two photos, elements that are part of the daily creation of the different artists. These appendices will allow visitors to discover the creative process and the evolution of the artists’ work. Saturday you can meet some of the exhibited artists: Adrien Roubens (BE) — Antistatik (FR) — Ascril (BE) — Hyer (BE) — Jean Rooble (FR) — Jean Val Joint (FR) — Jomad & Andrew (FR) — Jellyfish (BE) — Kitsune (BE) — Koga (FR) — Kshit (BE) — Leyto (FR) — Mehsos (BE) — Piet Rodriguez (BE) — Poter (FR) — Roes 89 (BE) — Samuel Idmtal (BE) — Waf (BE) and more
