In its 7th year now, Street Art Cities has become one of the biggest street art platforms of the moment. Built on a solid hunter community, with every day new locals volunteering, we’re paving our way to become ‘the world’s street art community’. This comes with great responsability, because many have done this before us, not always that succesful.

Expanding the community:

Being a platform developped from a hunter’s perspective to create a street art map for his or her city, SAC has built several tools for the hunters to shoot, document and hunt.

But over the years travelling around and meeting with artists and talking about the project, it was clear artist should also be an integral part of our global community. So we brainstormed and used the feedback to come up with something new.

Artist Pages:

Since last year we have been deploying artists pages, over the years hunters have uploaded 1000’s of artworks. Now we collected all the artworks of the same artist on 1 page, the Artist Page. You’ll find a quick overview of their art, even the ones that don’t exist anymore and check out the map view at the botom of the page .

We’re inviting artists to complete their page by adding a short bio, website and social links and they can even add their shop if they have one. Adding a beautiful header image and profile picture just tops it.

In the artworks tab artists can ‘highlight’ or ‘hide’ their art, thus creating the perfect look for their page. One of the coolest features though is the map view, some artist have created their own (google) map to pinpoint their art, but now they can easily embed the SAC map to their site.

example of world renowned artist ROA, he ‘s been almost everywhere

There was one question remaining: can artists add their own art? The obvious answer is YES, but how would this affect the balance of our existing ecosystem? Some of our hunters are so dedicated that they’re very sensitive of their highly curated street art map. But what could hunters have against artist adding their own art? Nothing right, on the contrary it adds that little extra to our database. So as of today artist who claim their profile will find that shiny red ‘add artwork’ button on their page.

just hit that red button and start completing your page.

So how to gain acces to your artist page? Just look for your art on our platform, click on your name and hit that ‘Claim profile’ button at the bottom of the page. If you’re art isn’t documented yet, just contact us and we’ll set up your page.

How to add artworks,

Most of our hunters already have the hang of it, but how do you add art on our system?

example of the ‘add artwork’ page

The first thing you can fill are off course the name of the artist, when artists add artworks from their page this is already covered off course. You can add a title and the most important thing is the exact address! You can switch to satelite view to perfectly pinpoint the location.

The ‘description’ text box allows you to add extra info about the artwork. And then you can add pictures off course. The first one needs to be a detail shot, because this acts as the thumbnail on our maps. Then you can add wide shots and even ‘work in progress’ pictures.

Marker Tags: adding extra data in the mix

‘Marker Tags’ is something new which hides under ‘advanced details’, this allows you to add additional information like: date created, festival, artists nationality etc.

There’s a lot of fields to choose from but we think that these are the most important to add: nationality, creation date, festival, powered by. This adds extra data which can be used to filter in the future. EG which artworks have been created by Italian artists in 2023. Imagine the possibilities. Find more about this new feature on our forum.

That’s it for now, I hope you like these new developments and please let us know what you think….
